Palestine on Display at Robbins Library

November 27, 2024

(Arlington, MA) After months of waiting, Palestinian culture and history are finally coming to Arlington's Robbins Library. Throughout the month of December, books on Palestine will be featured on the library's community table, along with artwork and important cultural symbols of Palestine.

The display is curated by Arlington for Palestine, a local group of diverse Arlington residents advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israel's occupation of Palestine. The table is an invitation to Arlington residents to learn about the human side of Palestine and the Palestinian people.

All the featured books are available in the Arlington Public Library catalog or in the broader Minutemen network. The table features something for every age group, including children's books, young adult readers, and historical analysis.

Many aspects of Palestinian culture and history are on display, including Palestinian cookbooks, such as "Gaza Kitchen." Don't forget to pick up Arlington for Palestine's official hummus recipe from the table. Art lovers will dazzle at the tatreez (traditional Palestinian embroidery) and children will have the opportunity to learn about Palestinian children through age-relevant books.

Many of the featured books and authors will be familiar to Arlington residents, including "Peace, Not Apartheid," by former President Jimmy Carter and "On Palestine" by MIT's well-respected Jewish professor Noam Chomsky.

Through the table, residents will be introduced to new books and authors, including local Israeli author Linda Ditmar's memoir "Tracing Homeland." Ta-Nehisi Coates, an important voice in the Black Lives Matter movement, is also a prominent highlight on the table with his new book, "The Message."

New books will be featured on the table each week for the entire month. The table is located in the main lobby between the front doors and the elevator. After admiring all that Palestine has to offer, make sure you thank the library staff for all their support on the way out.
